Frequently Asked Questions

This eight-week paid summer externship is for BSN students entering their senior year. To qualify, you must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program, have completed Fundamentals and a medical-surgical clinical course, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. ADN students are not eligible.

Externships are available at Roper Hospital (Downtown Charleston), Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital (West Ashley), Mount Pleasant Hospital, and Berkeley Hospital. Submit one application to be considered for all locations.

Applications open annually at the end of the year.

If selected, you’ll be contacted by the Nurse Recruiter for an interview. Please note: housing is not provided. If you're graduating soon, we recommend appling for RN positions.

Hospital-based RNs with less than six months of experience are automatically enrolled in this program.

Post-residency nurses may receive continued mentorship for up to a year.
